MOTHERLAND

Twenty six years now
Feeling her tender care and love
In her is the beauty of its own kind
Eye appealing and attention holding
Look at the beautiful scenery
All of which is exemplary
Too good and extraordinary
Though at times things get tough
To her I will never act rough
Because I like all her aspects
To her I will remain loyal
And never do anything illegal
For I am patriotic to her
That is Kenya,my motherland

WEEP NOT

Soon food stores will be full
And fasting will pave way for feasting
Birds will melodiously sing
Joy will be the order of the day
Camels will roam in the desert
And elephants will as usual fatten
The mind will relax at last
The heart will be beating softly
Nice moments will be the status on facebook
The news will be about economic boom
The landlord being the best friend
Nice moments when food will be plenty
And cost of living affordable to everyone
Weep not for there comes nice moments

SPEECHLESS

The upper lip is heavier than the lower
It can’t open to utter a word
Is it tied by unseen forces
So that I be quiet as if am dump
And keep what is to be said
Why can’t it open and screem
And let the world know
That I don’t deserve this

What I am seeing is worth to shout
In fact my eyes can’t withstand
They have even responded
For I can see the tears
Painful tears from pained sockets
But why am I still quiet
Yet my heart is burning badly
Is there poor coordination
Between my eyes and my mouth
Why am I not talking
Yet this toxin is corroding my heart?

I need to say enough is enough
Yet my tongue is held captive
When I need its services most
I can’t doubt my instinct
For it has never deceived me
This is the time for me to talk
And get rid of this venomous venon
That eats my heat rapidly
But how comes I can’t talk
Yet talking is the only medicine
To heal this cronical sickness

Many years in your captive
Under arrest in your chainless jail
As a captive I served you well
Until you felt like a king
In your imaginary kingdom
You being the king, I the submissive maid
Taking all that came from you
Smiling at the good
And never complaind at what was bitter
Today you walk over my heart
Shedding it into tiny pieces
I can’t say anything
I am speechless!

SHREDS OF DOUBTS

Your words sounds so sweet
For once I will give you my ear
To listen to the oasis of promises
Coming from the fountains of your lips
indenting to lure me into your magics
So that I give you all of me
Maybe your words are true
But how will I be sure
That you aren’t like those
Who promise the sun
When they can’t even give the stars

In this game I ceased to be a player
I decided to be a loyal spactator
Watching the lucky ones play it
My flame of love went off long ago
When someone promised me heaven
And ended me in the hell
I am willing to give in to your words
But I still doubt if I will gain anything
Or I will still be a consistent loser

You say love is sweet
You want me to believe it
I can’t disagree with that
Because there are those who believe it
I would wish to hear your “sweet words”
And sink them into my bone marrow
But I have one problem
If love is sweet
Why does my heart always find the bitter slice
Maybe that is why am deaf to it

I am not being defiant
To accept your humble request
I know this game has its giants
As for me am just a naive guest
The heart is willing we form an alliance
So that I feel the taste of the game
But my conscience is still defiant
I guess there is a danger am trying to evade
They say once beaten twice shy
In me are some shreds of doubt
That will never be scattered

TO THE UNBORN

In the furthest corner of the womb
Where you innocently take refuge
Receive this letter from your expectant mum
And please read it carefully
Keep all you read in your heart
Don’t forget them when you come to the world

Your mum expects much from you
Waiting eagerly to see the fruit of her labour
Even if I will be overwhelmed by labour pains
I will endure it quietly
Because its end will bring me joy
When I will be seeing your smile
As you open your mouth wide

I know you will take the beauty of your mother
Beauty that will bring healing to me
So that you be a princes to your family
A true joy of my womanhood
And please be cautious
Let the beauty not deceive you
So that you despice people in this world
Don’t you ever be cruel
Always be kind and you will prosper

The world is an endless pool
With both sweet and bitter things
The sweet will welcome you warmly
Don’t get drunk of the sweetness
Because in it are hungry hyenas
With open mouths that can devour you
Please define your limits
So that you distant yourself
From too much sweetness
As you avoid the bitter slice

At one point situation may force you to cry
Because you can’t avoid it
Endure the toils of the world
And let the tears wash the pains
Because weeping may endure for a night
But joy cometh in the morning
So face today’s problems boldly
For tomorrow you will live happily

I am wishing you only the best
Praying for you day and night
That your reception to the world be exciting
And your presence be my turning point
So that you grow to be my pride
And bring joy that will fade away my pain
Let my heart find refuge in you

WHO AM I

I woke up to a bright morning
Able to see the golden brown sun
And felt the romantic warmth
As I viewed the beauty of nature
When the sun set
I saw the bright glow
I then pitied that brother of mine
Whose sight was lost forever
And can’t see the beautiful nature
Who am I not to thank God
For giving me both healthy eyes

I arrived at the sports complex early
Ready to cheer my team loudly
Singing and dancing as usual
Lucky enough our team worn
Noise engulfed the place
Next to me was a fellow fan following quietly
Cheering without uttering a word
I realized he couldn’t talk
Who am I not to thank God
For giving my tongue ability to talk

Later in the evening
As I passed by the grocery
I saw a very beautiful lady
Selling vegetables at the grocery
When she rose to talk to me
I realized her right leg was lame
And she supported herself with a stick
Who am I not to thank God
For giving me both legs to walk

On my way back home
I boarded a “matatu”
The conductor was a nice looking guy
With well built athletic body
The passangers were talking loudly
Though he never seemed to be bothered
When a passenger wanted to alight
She made a sign to indicate that she was to alight
I then realized that he couldn’t hear
Who am I not to thank God
For giving me both listening ears

With both eyes to see clearly
Ability to engage in discussions actively
Both legs to walk
Both ears to hear what people say
Who am I not to use them well
In appreciation to God’s favour

OBSESSION

Seasons have come and gone
Some were nice,others were nasty
All passed and are now history
Treated as past as they are long gone
But the mind clinches on one thing
Separating from it you can’t think
The feeling that perverts your mind
Making you a captive of your own self
The feeling of its own kind
In which you surrender all of yourself

The feeling that you can’t get over
Experiencing it becomes your chore ever
Even when you are feeling low
Thinking of it stimulates you
Making you feel high again
Should I call it submission
Or giving yourself to something for a reason
With no thoughts of separation
Until it becomes part of you

The mind sends you on a mission
To love someone with great affection
That a day can’t end before you mention
How good he is in his actions
In him you find a small prison
Where your own self is held captive
But to you it looks like an earthly paradise
Because in him you find solace

I have never understood the charm
That hold someone so tight
The charm that doesn’t harm
But binds your heart to another person’s heart
And once both parties unite
They create their own artificial planet
Thinking of one another day and night
To one another, they become obsessed

MEMORIES

Time fly first
Rushing us into unpredictable tomorrow
In it we can find joy that lasts
Still it can bring endless sorrow
Resulting inti great thirst
That pierces the heart like an arrow
That is when we miss our past
That was left behind like the shadow

I met the beauty of town
Feeling great pain in the heart
Sitting on a stone facing down
Time had stolen her joy
And left her poor after being hurt
Making her head an oasis of memories
Memories of moments long lost

She longed for her once nice face
The face that gave her a nice look
That secured her black beauty
That was before ruining her skin
By applying chemicals
In an attempt to make herself brown
Her current spotted face
Reminds her of the African beauty
Stolen away by the bleachers

Looking at a young man’s portrait
She remembered her long time lover
Who is now lying breathless
Few metres behind her house
She then remembers how sweet it was
When they said ‘I do’ on the alter
Before there came the thief
Who snatched her soul mate
Leaving her a bitter future
Wishing time would reverse

She longed for the peaceful moments
When the swift breeze from the lake
Romantically engulfed the land
Giving nature a special beauty
That touched her heart softly
Appreciating Africa as her land
All those are now history
And history is synonymous to past
The current Africa is bitter
A man-eat-man society

When she thinks of the past
Her scar opens into a fresh wound
A wound on the heart
That bleeds terribly
She longs for the lost love
Since “the next to her heat” passed away
As a result of military coup
And wishes that past would re-occure
So that human hearts regain tenderness
Which lost itself in the mysteries of the past

MEANT TO BE

Another evening like yesterday
The sun is seen far in the west
Giving out sparkling brown rays
Adding flavour to the test of life
Producing tender and nice warmth
That warm our hearts deep in their cages
Like a splint our hearts glow
And eventually ignite into fire
Magical fire lit in the heart

The fire keeps burning
But doesn’t harm the “victims”
Its flame is a sign of hope
Its light illuminate our path
Giving our future a bright glow
As if our hearts have stopped
We both stand facing one another
What I see are her deep dimples
On soft cheeks than never had pimples
Wow!…she is meant for me

Tired of busking on evening sun
We go down the shore
Carefully penetrating the tendrils
Coiling through rugged landscape
Viewing the beauty of nature
In my mind her beauty stick like glue
And my tenderness holds her like a net
Then she grips the collar of my shirt
Holding me tight to her chest
And make a lifetime confession
That I am meant for her

The rising of tides
Gives a magical sensation
That lifts both of us up
Though maintaining our positions
The throbbing of the water
As the waves bounch on the shore
Brings an endless laughter
A sign of a bright future
Then we both stand up strong
And join into one ness through a hug
A true proof that we are meant to be
